At Comic-Con in San Diego, there was information about the next expansion of Lord of the Rings Online: Legacy of Morgoth. Also, Update 41 is set to be released this week. MeinMMO summarizes all the important details for you.
What is known about the new expansion of LOTRO? The roadmap for 2024 already indicated that a new expansion for Lord of the Rings Online is set to release in the fourth quarter. Included are four fresh regions, a raid, and an instance group.
At Comic-Con in San Diego, more details were revealed:
- the new expansion is called “Legacy of Morgoth”
- with the addon, the storyline of “The Song of Waves and Wind” will continue; more details on the story series can be found at lotro-wiki.com
- as part of the storyline, you will leave the city of Umbar to venture into the desert of Harad

Was that all the information from Comic-Con? In regard to the MMORPG for Lord of the Rings, the responsible parties also presented the most important new features of Update 41, which is set to be released around July 31, 2024 (via forums.lotro.com). The patch brings, among other things:
- the new hobby of bird watching
- a new event for craftsmen
- new quests and rewards for monster play
- after humans, elves will also receive new customization options such as faces and hairstyles, and improvements to animations are planned
Alongside Update 41, the two new Legendary servers Angmar and Mordor will go live, offering a fresh challenge with a stronger variant of the Ringwraith attacks. The victims of the Nazgûl must team up with other Middle-earth fighters to have a chance at victory. Powerful loot awaits as a reward.
News from the other Daybreak MMORPGs
The representatives of Daybreak Game Company used the panel at Comic-Con not only to look at the upcoming content for Lord of the Rings Online. There were also topic blocks for the other MMORPGs of the publisher. Here are the highlights:
- Lead designer Chad Brown talked about the upcoming port of DC Universe Online for the Xbox Series. He also introduced “Harley Quinn vs. Apokolips,” the upcoming episode of the superhero MMORPG. The storyline is based on a DC series in which Harley joins the “Female Furies” to receive a brand new suit and a hammer. The release is planned for fall.
- Executive producer Rob Ciccolini spoke about the new expansion “Magic of Myth Drannor” for Dungeons & Dragons Online, set to release on August 14, 2024. It brings the new archetype of the chaos mage, the playable race of the Eladrin, and fresh content in a new zone.
- Executive producer Jenn Chan mentioned on stage the 25th anniversary of EverQuest and the 20th anniversary of EverQuest II. The milestones will be celebrated with in-game events, player gifts, updates for the “Anniversary Tower,” and the updates “The Outer Brood” and “Scars of Destruction.”
