Almost every MMORPG has the dungeon finder feature, but not everyone likes it. What is your opinion about it?
This is the Dungeon Finder: The feature is a group search tool for players who want to enter instanced content like dungeons or raids in MMORPGs. While in “old-school” MMORPGs players had to search for others manually and ask in chat, the dungeon finder does this automatically.
Over the years, the feature has spread within the genre, and hardly any modern MMORPG that offers instanced content is released today without the dungeon finder. However, it is not popular with all players, as highlighted by the heated debate about the feature in WoW Classic: Wrath of the Lich King.
- Proponents of the Dungeon Finder argue that the feature saves them a lot of time. You don’t have to search manually for a group and wait forever for everyone to be ready, but are automatically placed in a suitable group.
- Opponents of the Dungeon Finder believe that the feature removes a large part of the social interaction from the game. Without it, you have to interact with other players and actually play together, which is one of the most important aspects of an MMORPG.
Both sides provide arguments in discussions for their side and against the other, but a resolution is rare. Often, players like and dislike different things about the dungeon finder and set different priorities when playing.
