The space MMORPG EVE Online is notorious for space wars that demand a lot of time and resources from players. Now, the developers detonated a complete star, initiating a new storyline that calls upon the previously rather quiet NPC factions.
What is happening in EVE Online?
- On November 8th, the new expansion “Uprising” went live
- About a week prior, the developers blew up a star – around 1,800 player ships were in the system, MeinMMO author Mark Sellner was there live
- The detonation was a preparation for the new story in EVE Online with the expansion Uprising – as now the NPC factions also get involved
We are embedding the trailer for the new EVE expansion Uprising here:
EVE Online: NPC factions unleash wars in Lowsec
The usual wars in EVE Online are actually a direct result of player actions. It’s about valuable loot, vast territories, as well as envy and greed. Time and again, one hears of the wildest atrocities that players inflict on each other in EVE Online:
- Victims and perpetrators recount the biggest scam in the MMORPG EVE Online – ‘He was my best friend in the game’
- The hard-nosed space tyrant in the MMORPG EVE Online throws everything away: ‘I’m not the scapegoat of the galaxy’
- How a guild invested 10 months to topple a huge organization in the MMORPG EVE Online
But with the latest expansion Uprising, things change a bit. The NPC factions will now fight in the areas known as “Lowsec”. There are rules here, but they are not always enforced.
Player fights normally take place in “Nullsec” areas – where there are absolutely no rules.
After the destruction of the star in the Turnur system, the NPC factions are now going to war with each other and players can join in this conflict. Solo players can join one of the 4 factions and help conquer or defend the involved territories.
- The 4 NPC factions
- Amarr: 24th Imperial Crusade
- Caldari: State Protectorate
- Gallente: Federal Defence Union
- Minmatar: Tribal Liberation Force
A new “Faction Warfare” menu has been created for this purpose. It also shows the condition of a system – if it is at the front, it can be taken. If it is further in the territory of a faction, pirate raids or attacks on the logistical infrastructure are possible.
In addition to the major faction war, there were also some adjustments:
- New capital ships
- Many balance adjustments
- Revision of loyalty costs
- Many new cosmetic options
The expansion brings new momentum into the space MMORPG and in the rather calmer Lowsec sectors, there is some real action. Currently, the consequences are still unclear; the war between the NPCs is new.
But just as things have been in the last years in EVE Online, some crazy things will happen again that will leave many gamers shaking their heads in astonishment.
