The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (PC, PS4, Xbox One) expands with the next free update the housing and introduces a cool new feature that will make your houses feel more alive.
What is this new housing feature? With the new Update 27, it is possible to set character paths for almost all your assistants, mounts, and companions in your houses. This is intended to make the buildings feel more vibrant. The NPCs will not just stand statically at their assigned positions but will walk along paths set by you throughout the house.
With the character paths, we wanted to create an easy entry point while also making path editing quick and simple. It should be fun. Our ultimate goal was to create another layer in the creative and free furnishing of your homes without making it too complicated or boring.

Make your houses feel alive
What exactly is possible? If you place a figure like an NPC companion, a pet, or a mount in your home, you then select “Create Path” and set via position markers where the figure should go. This way, you create a complete path. Up to 30 positions can be set per NPC and distributed freely in your home. The NPCs will then follow this path.
It is even possible to set pauses at locations. These can last between three seconds and three minutes. You also determine the speed at which the figures move.
At the end of the path, the figure turns around and goes back. The paths can still be adjusted afterwards.
It is even possible to make your NPCs walk through the air or through furniture.
You can freely set positions wherever you want – even freely in the air or behind solid objects – if you want. That was very important to us because it preserves the freedoms that the housing editor is all about. But it also means that sometimes you might expect some strange behavior.

What exactly does it bring? With these completely freely positionable paths, you can create funny situations. How about a mysterious servant who suddenly appears out of nowhere? Set a path that leads the NPC behind a piece of furniture. There, he disappears into the wall. You then lead the path through the house in a sprint to a position behind a curtain, where the servant suddenly reappears.
You can make NPCs float or make it look like your pets are playing with each other. Let your creativity run wild.
I hope players will try it out for themselves and then share their thoughts and creations with others. There are no right or wrong ways to use the system, so have fun! While we at ZOS created the system, what you all make of it in the end gives it its meaning. Seeing what you created at the end of the day is the best part for me.

When will the update be released? The free Update 27 for the MMORPG ESO will be released with the new DLC Stonethorn on August 24 for PC/Mac and Stadia, and on September 1 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
