The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Stadia) announces Update 25 and the first DLC for 2020 “Harrowstorm”. In addition to new content, performance is the focus: ESO is set to reduce its size by about 30 GB. This should make a noticeable difference, but will only happen after a redownload of the client.
This is the announcement: On Thursday, the major presentation of “The Dark Heart of Skyrim” took place, the 2020 season of The Elder Scrolls Online. At the center of the year will be the new expansion “Greymoor”, which will not arrive until summer.
Even in February and March, ESO will be expanded. Likely, the content will be available for PC by the end of February, and for PS4 and Xbox One, as usual, two weeks later, in March.
There will be:
- the dungeon expansion Harrowstorm, the first DLC of 2020
- and the important Update 25
ESO reduces almost 30 GB
What is this update about? The ESO Update 25 will continue the long-promised performance improvements of ESO that fans have been waiting for so long. In summer 2019, a roadmap was released that Zenimax updated monthly to keep players informed.
Update 25 is now the big, important step:
- When the update arrives, players on all platforms will have to download The Elder Scrolls Online completely again
- However, the new version will be almost 30 GB smaller than the current one, significantly reducing disk space usage
- The new version is expected to run faster, load faster, the frame rates will be “a little better”, ESO will run smoother, and the patches will be smaller in the future than before
All of this was announced by Creative Director Rich Lambert at the major reveal event for “The Dark Heart of Skyrim” (via YouTube starting from minute 51).
Performance is currently considered one of the biggest problems of The Elder Scrolls Online, which is among the 5 most popular MMORPGs in Germany.
Additionally, Lead PvP Designer, Brian Wheeler, announced that with Update 25, the “Combat Team” will make improvements to the combat system of The Elder Scrolls Online, especially regarding blocking and triggering item effects, item procs (via forums.elderscrolls).
What new content is coming? The DLC “Harrowstorm” will bring two dungeons:
- Icebringer – players will investigate the mysterious gramstorms that sweep across the Sea of Ghosts. They will encounter the cruel Icebringer Circle, which is preparing an unholy ritual
- Unholy Tomb – in this dungeon, heroes will find an ancient burial site unearthed by grave robbers beneath the sands of Bangkorai.
It seems that ESO is gearing up for the big Greymoor expansion, which is set to be released on May 18 for PC and on June 2 for PS4 and Xbox One.
