The Elder Scrolls Online has become a real hit in recent years. In 2019, this is also reflected in impressive player numbers for the MMORPG. How many people play ESO on PS4, Xbox One, and PC?
Publishers and developers rarely talk about their player numbers or usually keep it somewhat cryptic because a game loses interest over the years. With The Elder Scrolls, it’s exactly the opposite. It has become a real hit over the years through many patches and expansions, so Zenimax is now proud of the player numbers they announce.
Accordingly, ESO alone attracted more than 2.5 million new players in the past year.
How many people have played ESO? In an interview with USGamer, it was stated that the number of all accounts that were ever active has increased to 13.5 million. The last months have been particularly successful. Especially between December 2018 and February 2019, there was a significant increase in players that even surprised the developers.
How many active players does ESO have? However, how many of the players are currently “active” remains unanswered. Such numbers are rarely disclosed by any MMORPG.
What factors are included? When it comes to player numbers, one should not forget that ESO was also offered in the Humble Bundle and can be played as part of the Xbox Game Pass. This is likely to boost the player count a bit.
However, the free trial versions are not counted – they are excluded from the numbers.
For comparison: The MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV has 16 million players – but probably counts trial versions here.
Currently, the “Elsweyr” expansion has been newly added to ESO and has provided players with many fresh contents. Especially our Jürgen really shines in the new expansion.
What do you think of ESO’s success? Does the game deserve it? Or do you find it incomprehensible?
