The Elder Scrolls Online is currently having issues with bugs. Due to a strange error, many players were unable to see their friends and guilds or couldn’t even log into the game at all. The developers’ actions are further aggravating the situation for players.
What were the issues in ESO? Many players who logged into ESO on Monday, June 10, were likely quite surprised. Suddenly, all their friends and guilds were gone. Others couldn’t log back into the game at all after logging out in the PvP area of Cyrodiil.
How ZeniMax reacted: The developers at ZeniMax apparently identified the issue related to increased traffic on the servers. To resolve it, access to the guild history on the servers was restricted.
This, in turn, caused all addons, i.e., fan-created mods, which required this data to stop functioning. Among these are popular tools like Master-Merchant, which are essential for trading guilds in ESO.
Players are complaining about the developers’ actions
How fans are reacting: Many ESO fans, already angry about the bugs, are now frustrated by the developers’ approach. In the ESO forum, some players interpret the developers’ actions as blaming the community.
ZeniMax, according to the tone in the forum, is not able to program effectively, and instead of admitting this, they are blaming the fans’ addons:
These repeated problems and the attack on the guild history […] raise the question of blame towards the addon creators who utilize the functions, some of which have existed for years without causing issues, as well as towards the users who rely on the 10-day history.
What’s next: The developers seem to be having success with their approach, and at least the bugs appear to be resolved. However, the addons remain blocked, which is currently just a temporary solution. According to community manager Kai Schober, there is an intention to allow them back as soon as possible:
No one wants to place blame on the addons here. That is wrong, as they are simply utilizing what the interface allows them to. Currently, there are too many inquiries regarding guilds and guild traders, and deactivating them is a temporary solution.
When will the addons come back? Unfortunately, there is currently no timeline for this. ZeniMax also could not provide information on when the addons will be reactivated upon request. However, they are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
