The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has been expanded with the DLC Dragonhold. The first reactions have now arrived.
What is Dragonhold? With Dragonhold, you will experience the finale of the Elsweyr saga surrounding the emergence of dragons in this land. You will explore the new area of Southern Elsweyr and confront not only the dragons but also bandits there.
Furthermore, improvements to performance are making their way into the game, the group search has been overhauled, and the combat system has been optimized as well.
There Were Minor Problems at Launch
How did the launch go? Players report that after the launch of Dragonhold on PC (the console version follows on November 5), the EU server crashed on October 21. There were login issues that persisted into the early hours of October 22.
In general, logging in was also difficult on the US server, and players were repeatedly kicked. Additionally, an “endless” loading screen appeared.
What about the performance improvements? Due to the influx of players and server issues, it is currently impossible to say whether the performance of the game has noticeably improved with the update. This will be shown in the coming days.
There are Positives and Negatives
What do players like? Players are already discussing the new content on Reddit and have found quite a bit that they enjoy in the relatively short time that Dragonhold has been playable.
- There is a lot to do – Players are eagerly exploring southern Elsweyr and enjoying the new quests.
- It’s easier to find group members – The group search system is well-received, as it now works noticeably better than before.
- Exciting battles – The new enemies, including the white dragons, make players’ lives difficult in a positive way, as it is fun to fight them.
What are the problems? However, there is also some criticism of the new DLC. These include:
- The new map of southern Elsweyr – Some find the area too small with too few cities and too much downtime in between. Many important locations like Torval, Mane, Cornith, Alabaster, or the Tenmar Forest are missing.
- Nerf – Damage-over-Time skills such as those of the Sorcerer have been nerfed. However, this is likely only a temporary point of criticism until players have adjusted.
- Endgame – There is no new endgame content, even though many had specifically wished for this.
In general, the first impression is still extremely fresh and has been somewhat clouded by the launch issues. Some in the community believe that it is better to wait a little before diving into Dragonhold. Waiting until the initial rush is over and maybe until there is also a patch or two. Then it will be easier to assess how good the new ESO DLC really is.
Have you had a chance to play Dragonhold? What are your first impressions of the DLC?
