In the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online there were unusually long queues on PC last weekend. Initially, it was believed that this was due to the many new players wanting to test ESO for free. But now community manager Gina Bruno reveals: There were other issues.
This was the news:
- This weekend, there were excessively long queues in The Elder Scrolls Online. Players sat idle in front of their PCs for up to 2 hours, expressing their frustration about the long wait on social media.
- These long queues were unusual because no new expansion had been released to create such a hype.
- Nevertheless, the search interest in The Elder Scrolls Online had risen enormously and was at its highest level in 2 years. We believed on MeinMMO that the sudden influx was due to some special promotions coming together, allowing players to play ESO for free.
Team acknowledges communication errors
This is what Zenimax says now: Community manager Gina Bruno spoke out on July 31st and explained (via eso):
- Many people were indeed playing, including many new players
- However, there was still a problem with the backend systems that led to the long queues
- These systems needed to be restarted. But since so many players were in the queue, it took time to get them into the game:
“We admit that we messed up the communication on this matter, and we apologize for it. We are already discussing ways to improve internal communication and ensure that this does not happen again.”
This is the reaction: In the forum, people say:
- The waiting time was indeed terrible
- But what was even more annoying was the lack of communication from the developers. The standard should at least be to release a “We are working on it” / “We are taking care of it” statement. Even small updates would help.
However, the majority of players now thank Gina Bruno for clarifying what was responsible for the long queue.
