What do you think? Where will the next ESO addon take us? Which area would you like to visit in the MMORPG?
We will then have to wait and see if there are any hints in the new cinematic about where the journey for The Elder Scrolls Online goes in 2020.

During the Game Awards on December 13, Zenimax will announce something big for the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). Fans suspect that it is a Skyrim addon, which would probably be released in the summer of 2020 as a new chapter.
Update 12/13: On Friday, the 13th, something good is happening. A new trailer was shown last night. At the end of it, there were indeed hints of Skyrim as a “New Chapter” for the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online.
The next expansion of The Elder Scrolls Online will be presented in detail in January. But it is already clear that players will explore “the Dark Heart of Skyrim”.

Original message:
What is Zenimax planning? On December 13, around 1:30 AM in our time zone, the annual Game Awards will take place. During the show, not only games will be awarded, but traditionally announcements will also be made.
Zenimax is also on site and has already announced with a banner that they want to show something for the MMORPG ESO.

Will the next addon be presented?
What could Zenimax show? Fans’ speculations naturally point towards an addon. The Season of the Dragon ends this year, and a new story will start in 2020. ESO fans are of course curious and want to know what the next story will be about:
- ESO releases 3 “smaller DLCs” per year in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th quarters of a year
- and one large chapter, the actual expansion. So far, this has always been in the 2nd quarter of a year
So it doesn’t have to be the next addon that is presented right away. It could also be the next DLC for the 1st quarter of 2020.
But Zenimax might handle it like this year and tell a coherent story again in 2020, to which the DLCs will also belong.
This would mean: If Zenimax only announces a DLC, it could already provide a hint about the upcoming story.
What could the next addon revolve around? The ESO community is already discussing this topic a lot, and one theory is persistent: It is suspected that the next expansion will take us to Skyrim.
How do the players come to that conclusion? There are many hints about Skyrim in ESO, and there are always small suggestions that new adventures could await us in the land of the Nords. For example, a player in the ESO Forum on October 22 gathered some hints.
Three concrete hints have already been worked out by the community:
- The NPC Sormund explains that he is setting off for Skyrim with his crew.
- The NPC Cadwell tells that he traveled all the way to Solitude in Skyrim.
- Moreover, the Redguard Sai Sahan reveals that Lyris Titanborn has set off on an important mission to Skyrim.
It is also possible that the dragons from Elsweyr could establish a connection to Skyrim. After all, we also encounter these creatures in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
So there are many indications that there is something important to do in Skyrim, and NPCs keep dropping hints about the land. Additionally, large parts of Skyrim are still missing from the game that we cannot visit yet. So it is very likely that at some point in the MMORPG ESO, we will be taken to this region. The only question is whether this will happen in 2020.
Hammerfell or indeed Skyrim?
Are there other theories? Yes, one possibility is as likely as Skyrim, namely that we visit Hammerfell. Because in the current storyline, the Redguard Sai Sahan plays a significant role, who comes from the city of Bangkorai in Hammerfell. He could be a major hint that we are traveling to his homeland. There are also many pirates there, who played an important role in the DLC Dragonhold.
Additionally, Black Marsh could still be an option, the land of the Argonians. These have been addressed so far in DLCs. But whether another beastfolk will be in the spotlight after the Khajiit is questionable. Perhaps Zenimax now wants to return to more familiar territories.
Moreover, the journey could lead to regions of Cyrodiil or Morrowind. But that seems rather unlikely.
What is the most likely option? Most hints point to a journey to Hammerfell or Skyrim.
However, there is something that argues against a journey to Skyrim in 2020: The 10th anniversary of TES 5: Skyrim in 2021 makes it seem more likely that we will receive a Skyrim addon only then. That would simply fit better.
On December 13, we will know more about what Zenimax has in store for the future of ESO.
Expansion will be presented in January instead
Update 12/5: There was a new announcement from Zenimax on December 5. They want to present the next expansion on January 16 in Las Vegas.
Now on December 12, the “missing last part of the Season of the Dragon” cinematic trailer will be shown.
