The MMORPG Crowfall was announced in January 2015 but has still not been officially released as of today. The developers have now provided a rough overview of their release plan in an interview with Ten Ton Hammer.
When will Crowfall be released? Although there is still no official release date, there is a rough schedule of how things will progress with Crowfall.
Currently, work is being done on the final milestone, the “War of the Gods” update, which is expected to be released in early 2020. After that, the developers plan to focus solely on fixing bugs and polishing the game.
Internally, Crowfall is expected to reach alpha status with the new update, although all backers have been able to continuously play the first campaigns since early 2019 .
What does the final milestone bring? The upcoming update is expected to bring the last missing content and also combine some systems. New to the game are:
- The 11th and final class Frostweaver
- The “Divine of the Gods” system
- Mounts and caravans
- The new campaign “Dregs” and thus GvG
- The system for expanding cities
With the update, the MMORPG Crowfall is expected to be fully feature-complete.
This is how the new PvP campaign in Crowfall will be
What makes the MMORPG so interesting? Crowfall does many things differently than other MMORPGs. It does away with a large game world and instead divides itself into several so-called campaigns, each with different rules:
- The Eternal Kingdoms are a social world where players can trade, build their own houses, and interact.
- God’s Reach is a pure PvE world designed to introduce players to Crowfall.
- The Infected is a PvP world where three factions fight against each other.
- New with the update is Dregs, a campaign specifically for guild versus guild combat.
The campaigns consist of several worlds and undergo a cycle of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. At the end, the Hunger, which devours entire worlds, always awaits, thus ending the campaign.
A campaign is expected to last between one month and one year. The only exception to this cycle is the Eternal Kingdoms, which will always remain and serve as your retreat.
How is the Dregs campaign structured? The new PvP campaign specifically focuses on guilds. Each guild fights for itself and can build and conquer different fortresses.
However, to ensure that the strongest guild does not simply win, the “Divine of the Gods” system is introduced:
- There are a total of 12 gods, each granting its own bonus.
- There will be various tasks to complete in order to receive the gods’ bonuses. The paths involve Glory, Wealth, and Strength.
- For Glory, guilds must please the gods; for Wealth, it’s about constructing buildings; and for Strength, it’s about conquest.
- The system is designed to ensure that victory comes not just through conquest, but especially through strategy.
- The tasks and rewards are randomly assigned, so they differ with each new campaign.
While this new campaign focuses entirely on PvP, you should have fun as a PvE player in other campaigns as well.
Will there be another campaign? Originally, a fifth campaign was planned for Crowfall: The Shadowlands. Currently, the developers are unsure whether it is even needed.
In the interview, it is stated that all tools for the Shadowlands are ready, but they want to wait for the development of Dregs. If fans want another world, they can fall back on it.
Crowfall receives a lot of support
Are the developers’ ideas well received? Crowfall relies on a lot of variability in its systems. Areas should be easily combinable, and the rules of a campaign can be adjusted at any time.
With its new ideas, Crowfall is well received by players. In 2016, more than 4.7 million dollars were raised through crowdfunding. This was followed by revenues from backers and further funding boosts.
Anyone interested in the game can register for the upcoming closed beta for free. In addition, every backer package (the cheapest costs 50 euros) already grants permanent access to the MMORPG.
