During the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in London, Naoki Yoshida played the MMORPG live on stream. However, he faced the challenges not alone, but with his great idol Hironobu Sakaguchi. The latter teased the Director and Producer in traditional MMORPG style.
Where did Yoshida and Sakaguchi play? The live stream featuring Final-Fantasy-XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida along with the creator of the Final Fantasy game series, Hironobu Sakaguchi, took place during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival. The stream was recorded on the second day of the event on the stage of Excel London and is available to catch up on Youtube.
At the Fan Fest, both developers participated in several panels. During this time, Sakaguchi mentioned that he spent up to 80% of his time in the MMORPG. Yoshida also asked Sakaguchi if he wanted to co-develop the game.

What challenges have the two tackled? The first battle the two developers faced was the standard test Prophecy – Golbez
from Patch 6.4. In it, an eight-man group fights against the Final Fantasy XIV version of the villain Golbez from Final Fantasy IV.
The second combat content was Abyssos – Fifth Circle
from the current eight-man raid series Pandæmonium. They concluded with the level-50 battle Revenge in the Ruins

For all battles, Yoshida and Sakaguchi formed groups with the Party Finder. Their six companions were thus randomly selected players. While Naoki Yoshida led his favorite class Black Mage, an attacker, Hironobu Sakaguchi participated as a Paladin, a defender, thus a tank.
Heavily Trolled: Yoshida Plays with His Great Idol, But Sakaguchi Only Fooling Around
How did Sakaguchi troll Yoshida? Most of the “trolling” happened right in the first fight against Golbez. Hironobu Sakaguchi, as the main tank, was the target of a heavy tank-buster. However, as this started, he ran confidently towards Naoki Yoshida, attempting to catch him in the meteor damage – successfully:
Shortly after in the same fight, he tries again but unfortunately fails to find Naoki Yoshida. Due to a debuff, Sakaguchi unfortunately does not survive the tank-buster.
However, the creator of Final Fantasy was not the only victim: Healer Alva Alvitr jumped over the edge of the arena and dragged Naoki Yoshida’s character to death with the ability “Rescue”:
What is a tank buster?
The so-called tank busters are very strong attacks against tanks. Tanks in Final Fantasy XIV are the classes Paladin, Dark Knight, Warrior, and Gunbreaker. Tank busters automatically target the player character with the highest “enmity level”; that is, the character the boss is currently aiming at. In most cases, these are the tanks. A tank buster deals very high damage and applies strong debuffs. A non-tank usually cannot withstand this, which is why tanks deal with these attacks alone or with the off-tank take the hit
as needed.
What is the ability Rescue?
Rescue is a healer ability unlocked at level 48. It allows you to pull another character within 30 feet to you. This way, other players can be quickly saved from an area effect. Or they can be pulled into one.
What were the reactions to the griefing? Hironobu Sakaguchi was visibly pleased with his first meteor kill in the stream and only slightly disappointed that he did not succeed twice. Naoki Yoshida, on the other hand, initially appeared slightly panicked but then dissolved into giggles in his chair.
The translators supporting the team also could not hold back their laughter. The commenting Toshio Murouchi, the Global Community Producer of Final Fantasy XIV, leans back deeply in his chair. Apparently, he wanted to see the screen behind them for a better view of the action. He laughed: They are K.O.

The audience in the hall reacted with loud laughter and applause. It doesn’t happen every day that the great idol and role model of a director and producer griefs him in his own game in the best MMORPG style.
