In the MMORPG Metin2, hundreds of players were banned. The team has now reviewed whether these bans were justified and apologizes to those affected.
How did the bans occur? The MMORPG Metin2, which is now also available on Steam, uses software called CheatBlocker. This is intended to prevent cheaters or bots from overwhelming the game. The software works automatically and bans players based on certain guidelines.
Now there has been a wave of complaints, as Metin2 fans cannot understand why they were banned. Even characters that were not played at all suddenly received a ban.
Metin2 Team apologizes for unjustified bans
How did the team respond to this? The Community Management explained that they have received many requests and complaints from customers and therefore are now reviewing these bans. It is said that the CheatBlocker software will also be reviewed to better detect fraud cases in the future.
Furthermore, the team states that real cheaters were indeed detected, but there were actually unjustified bans in both December and during the current ban wave in March.
What will happen now? The team will review the accounts that were banned in December and March and will quickly unban any unjustified bans. However, this may take some time.
We will unban all accounts that were banned in March and December as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it may take some time until all affected accounts are unbanned, but the process has already started.
It is said that no inquiries should be sent to the team, as the support system could otherwise become overloaded. They ask for patience and apologize for the inconvenience.
Why the problem is even more serious: Now even banned accounts are to be reviewed that received a ban over the past year. It seems that the CheatBlocker software has not been working accurately enough for some time.
Additionally, we will look into previous bans (for example, from last year). We will announce further details as soon as we have the results.
This gives some players hope of getting their characters back after many months and thus being able to play the latest expansion.
What about compensation? The team wants to review compensation since some costumes, pets, or items may no longer be available. However, more details will be provided later.
What do you think about the situation? Do you still consider automatic bans to be good to keep cheaters and bots in check?
