In the MMORPG Blade & Soul, the developers are currently planning a major upheaval. A significant update aims to modernize the graphics engine and both the combat and loot systems will be adjusted. And all of this is expected to happen in 2021.
What’s happening in Blade & Soul? Under the name “Resurrection,” the developers are currently planning a comprehensive overhaul for Blade & Soul. The main focus of the update is: the upgrade to the Unreal Engine 4.
Blade & Soul will therefore receive new, improved graphics. The developers are aiming even higher and planning many changes. Some of the most important ones include:
- a new, revamped combat system
- class changes for existing characters
- improved interface
- solo challenges
In addition, a type of subscription system in the form of a Battle Pass is supposedly to be introduced, allowing players to obtain specific materials: “Players can still purchase items directly, but [the subscription] should offer a more immersive option” (via mmorpg.com).
Major Innovations for Blade & Soul 2021
What’s new? In one of the posts about the update, it is mentioned that the loot system will also undergo a major revision. Soon, it will be possible to obtain mythical quality equipment even outside of mythical dungeons.
As soon as you obtain such items, they will immediately have the maximum possible level, according to the developers. These items will then have random stats.
This is intended to prevent the devaluation of powerful items; however, players should be able to loot good equipment more easily. The grinding shifts a bit from the strong to the purely best gear.
At the same time, there will be a second mythical dungeon from which you can obtain corresponding loot. Two additional mythical dungeons will be released each season. Regarding the new dungeon, it is said:
“In this dungeon, challenging competitions await you. You can collect not only all new seasonal rewards but also Mythical accessories, whose unique, never-before-seen effects make them all the more enticing as rewards.”

When will the update be released? So far, it is only known that the major update is scheduled for “Summer 2021” and will be released in both Korea and the West. However, a specific date is still pending.
Some players see the update as a last attempt to revive an already dead MMORPG. Others are excited about the innovations and want to check it out again. What do you think?
