Black Desert Online takes place primarily in an open world. Leveling mainly works through grinding monsters, which can be taken from you by other players, and there are constant disputes over grind spots. The developers want to tackle this problem. We from MeinMMO summarize.
How does grinding work in BDO? In Black Desert Online, you mainly level by defeating hordes of monsters. You gain experience points and loot, and the poor creatures respawn a few minutes later right in front of you.
This so-called “grinding” takes place in the open world of BDO. So, it may happen that you have to compete with other players for your spot and the monsters that spawn there. This is, unfortunately, the order of the day, especially in the popular areas of the MMORPG, and spoils the fun for many fans.
The developers of BDO are now addressing this problem and introducing “Marni’s Secret Room”. With this option, you can farm in peace, but only for one hour a day.
Why just for such a short time? The developers explain that they do not want to destroy the fundamental feeling of an MMORPG by sending players to their own isolated worlds for too long. Many were internally convinced that one hour is short, while others thought it was too long. However, it will remain at one hour per day during the start phase.
For these reasons, you cannot carry over time to the next day or buy more time in Marni’s Room for real money. The developers do not plan for the time in this room to be extendable. However, later changes from the developers are possible.
A personal room – Almost everywhere
How exactly does it work? For now, these solo instances will only be available on specified maps. However, these will be expanded, and new areas will be added over time. Initially, the developers want to focus on the particularly popular zones.
If you are in Tshira, Elvia, Ronaros, and Co., you can call up the menu with F5 and enter Marni’s Secret Room. You will then enter a solo instance of this zone and can farm there comfortably for an hour a day without being interrupted or annoyed.
When you leave the room, time stops. So you can definitely use your whole hour and even split it over different areas.
What else changes? Nothing at all. When you enter the Secret Room, all other players besides you disappear. The monsters continue to appear at the same rates and identical spots as in the open world. The drop rates or experience points do not change either.

How does the community respond? They are positively surprised by the feature, even though there are some negative points that arise among fans. Primarily, the tone on reddit is positive. People think it’s a good idea that you do not have to fight over grind spots anymore and can farm in peace if you want.
However, one negative aspect that is also discussed is that Black Desert is moving further towards a solo game, while many fans believe it should go exactly the other way. The demand for more multiplayer content is strongly voiced here. Nevertheless, the mood around the Secret Room is very positive.
