On August 22, Black Desert Online was released for the PlayStation 4. Now, the first major update has arrived with new classes and new gameplay features for the MMORPG. Here are the patch notes.
What are the highlights of the first update? The focus of the update is on the first two new classes, Musa and Dark Blade:
- Musa fights with swords and bows and is generally very fast and mobile.
- The Dark Blade, on the other hand, relies on deadly daggers in close combat and magical attacks from afar. She has particularly high AoE capabilities.
The two expand the previous selection of only six classes on the PS4. Currently, there are 18 classes available in the PC version, which the PS4 aims to catch up to eventually.
The Xbox, where Black Desert was released in March of this year, is already ahead of the other console with several classes.
What’s new? In addition to the classes, you can also look forward to the world boss Kzarka, who appears through a summoning and challenges you. However, to stand a chance against him, you will need a lot of good gear!

Start of Guild Wars
What can PvP fans look forward to? With the first major patch, the post and conquest wars will also begin. It starts with a preseason that will run from September 4 to 25:
- The post wars take place every Sunday to Friday from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
- To participate, your guild must have at least 25 active players and establish a post.
- The goal is to be the last guild to have taken the post. After that, you will gain control over it.
- Captured posts bear your guild banner and bring you taxes.
- Whoever controls a post can later participate in the larger conquest wars.
- The battles in PvP are diverse, also because the MMORPG does not rely on a classic Holy Trinity.
Apprentice System Disabled on PS4
What else does the patch change? In addition to the major innovations, there were also small “Quality of Life” changes. From now on, you can open the mailbox anywhere in the world of Black Desert. The chat window has also been adjusted for the PS4, so some chats are now enabled by default.
On the other hand, the developers have also disabled the apprentice system in guilds. It is expected to be brought back later when the guilds have stabilized.
What about new areas? Players can currently not look forward to a new area. Areas like Starfall or the three newer underwater zones are still missing.
However, there were also many updates in a short time on Xbox. The PS4 version is likely to experience something similar.
