The Intrepid Studios have released a short video from the pre-alpha of the MMORPG Ashes of Creation, which could tantalize role-playing fans.
What can be seen in the video? It’s just a relatively short sequence of a little over a minute.
A wizard stands in a beautiful landscape with crystal-clear water. Behind him are ancient ruins. Clearly, the spellcaster wants to explore them. Who knows what treasures are hidden there? So he enters the mysterious place and immediately encounters its guardian.
This includes a Guardian of the Underrealm and some Ethereal Griffins. The wizard tries to sneak past the creatures, but they discover him. However, he is a very powerful wizard who shows the monsters who is boss with his magic. They are no match for him and flee.
All this is accompanied by very atmospheric music.
This already looks quite advanced
How does the video feel? The scene could come straight from a finished MMORPG. Both the graphics and the fights, as well as the UI, already feel like those of a released online game. Even the musical accompaniment is included.
Although the video is still from the pre-alpha – the alpha has yet to begin – you want to jump in and start exploring the world and the ruins and fighting against the monsters. Earlier gameplay of the MMORPG left a really good impression and this continues.
What also raises some concerns? As impressive and spectacular as the fight against the Ethereal Griffins looks, the question arises of how well Ashes of Creation will perform with such effects.
In the scene, only one character is visible, but what if there are several? How does this play out in a large battle when not just one wizard is present, but a whole series of wizards casting these huge spells?
MeinMMO author Andreas Bertits says: Yes, that is exactly how I envision a new, modern MMORPG. I would love to jump straight into the role of this wizard and want to start playing – and that, even though I usually don’t play wizards. I usually take the role of a warrior. But it just seems like so much fun to use these powerful spells to defeat opponents.
Ashes of Creation has now moved up further on my wishlist of new MMORPGs that I absolutely want to play, thanks to the video.
