The Creative Director of Ashes of Creation, Steven Sharif, announces that his studio and the publisher MY.GAMES are going their separate ways. The MMORPG will be published by the developer Intrepid Studios itself.
What happened? In a blog post on the official page of Ashes of Creation, the head of the MMORPG announced the separation from the publisher MY.GAMES.
He writes:
When we started our partnership with MY.GAMES in 2018, our goal was to provide our European and Russian players with the best customer and operational support. […] At that time, it made the most sense for us to partner with a publisher that is well established in these regions.
As we have grown as a company and expanded our capabilities, it has made sense to rethink our strategy and expand Intrepid’s responsibilities to become a global publisher. […]

The next step for Intrepid is the migration of accounts and the opening of its own European office in Amsterdam.
Sharif also explains that the developers at Intrepid have learned a lot from their colleagues at MY.GAMES and wish them continued success. The decision to separate was made jointly by both parties.
We contacted the publisher MY.GAMES and asked for their statement regarding the separation. The publisher confirmed that the decision was made together with Intrepid and emphasized that work on Ashes of Creation will not be affected.

What does this mean for the future? Essentially, self-publishing means that the developer can now make all decisions regarding publication independently. This primarily includes the payment model and pricing for various services and items in the game.
At the same time, it also means that the developer cannot rely on the resources of a publisher.

- The existing “Ashes of Creation” accounts will be seamlessly transferred to Intrepid Studios. All purchases and achievements will remain with the players.
- This also applies to purchases and achievements that occurred via MY.GAMES accounts.
- Users with both Intrepid and MY.GAMES accounts can contact support to merge their accounts.
- Starting next week, an Intrepid account will be required for gameplay.
- Those who hold pre-order packages will also be able to contact support to verify their purchases.
- Players who do not wish to migrate to Intrepid can have their purchases fully refunded.
Intrepid will also take over the work on localization and aims to ensure that all planned language releases eventually make it into the MMORPG.
