Anarchy Online by Funcom is now 18 years old and has changed significantly during this time. A “Progression Server” has now been launched, allowing a fresh start and bringing players back to the beginning of the online game. However, there is a catch.
A Classic Returns to the Beginning
What is Anarchy Online? The science-fiction MMORPG from Funcom was launched in 2001 and transports you to the world of Rubi-Ka, where the substance Notum is fought over. You create a hero, which you can enhance through augmentations, and participate in the struggle for Notum through missions and PvP battles.

What does the Progression Server of Anarchy Online offer? Rubi-Ka 2019, also called RK2019, presents the game as it was 18 years ago.
- You start without addons, with a low level cap and a fresh economy.
- Expansions will be added over time, as well as a gradual increase of the level cap.
- All characters must be recreated; it is not possible to transfer existing heroes.
- There is a limited item store, which does not include all items from the regular shop.
- The existing game code is used. This means that there is no reset of systems such as damage control, fall damage, XP loss, improvement point menu (IP menu), or PvP to an older version.
How do you participate? You need to subscribe to the RK2019 server, which costs about 15 dollars per month. You can only play for free on the existing worlds.
A Limited Time Enjoyment
What is special about this server? According to Funcom, RK2019 will only be open for one year – this plan may change, however. If you want to participate, you should hurry. Once RK2019 is shut down, your characters will be lost. They will not be transferred to the regular servers.

How are players reacting to RK2019? Anarchy Online is a special game for many MMORPG veterans. Not only did it represent an entry point into the genre for many, it also distinguished itself from competitors through its science-fiction setting and systems like augmentations. Accordingly, early fans are particularly enthusiastic.
However, there is also criticism. The subscription is about 15 dollars, which many feel is too high for a game that is 18 years old. Furthermore, there is confusion over the fact that the classic server is set to shut down after one year and that there is no option to transfer characters afterwards.
rainghost says on Reddit: “I was interested, but it looks like the server is only supposed to run for a year and then be shut down. After the shutdown, characters cannot be transferred to the live server and will disappear forever. That sounds really dumb to me.”
When does the new server start? The Progression Server for Anarchy Online has already started yesterday.
