The great space sandbox No Man’s Sky finally gets a date for the big update Beyond, which offers more MMO features and VR support. It’s coming soon, as the release date is just a few days away.
When is Beyond finally coming? The long-awaited “MMO update” Beyond has a date. It’s scheduled for August 14, 2019, for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It consists of three major individual updates and is, as always, available for free download.
Update Beyond brings VR and MMO features
What is No Man’s Sky? No Man’s Sky is a space sandbox where you can explore a huge, procedurally generated universe. The game was a huge disappointment at launch, as many promised features were missing. These have now been gradually implemented and the game now has a motivated and happy fanbase.
But one major feature has been missing so far: you have barely met other people in the universe. This is supposed to change with the new update Beyond.
What is Beyond? Beyond is supposed to finally offer social interaction features and a new multiplayer experience. What exactly the developers want to bring has still not been concretely revealed. However, there are speculations about shared structures, space battles, and cooperative fights against aliens.
Curiously, the developers still avoid the term MMO for their game. This is supposedly too connected to microtransactions or subscriptions, both of which they do not have.
Another major feature of Beyond will also be VR support. This should allow you to experience the infinite worlds of No Man’s Sky even more immersively with a VR device like the Oculus Rift and dive directly into the virtual world.
The VR feature has already received positive feedback in early tests. For example, the site PCGamesN (via the developer’s site) already wrote, “While other VR games (with a few exceptions) seemed quite limited, the underlying size of No Man’s Sky tears these limitations to shreds!”
To what extent the testers are right, you can test for yourself on August 14.
