Almost a month after the announcement, the new ego-shooter MMO The Invitation has now launched its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. We show you what is currently known about the game, how it is being received, and how you can support the developers.
The Invitation Kickstarter campaign launched: After The Invitation was first presented in early April The Invitation is now taking the next step. The ambitious new MMO shooter project from the German developer tool1 started its funding campaign on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter on May 6.
Until early June, you have the chance to become a backer and financially support the game and the devs in its development.

What is The Invitation?
What is it about? The Invitation is an ambitious MMO first-person shooter that aims to bring new life to this otherwise established genre.
The story takes place in 2081 in a rundown part of Eastern Europe. Overall, our Earth is in pretty bad shape at this time, as people have access to new worlds and many have moved on.
As a result, only a few people, as well as aliens, remain on Earth, fighting over loot or important locations.
What makes The Invitation special: In addition to genre-typical shooter mechanics and loot, The Invitation will primarily focus on maximum player interaction:
- For instance, players can challenge each other with quests – for assassinations or a joint raid
- On the other hand, players can also hinder each other in completing missions and come into conflict
- The Invitation is meant to be a PvX shooter, so PvE and PvP are mixed. An event can start as an attack on an AI enemy but later culminate in a massive PvP battle for valuable loot. There will also be permanent PvP events
Especially the player-created quests are expected to play a significant role. Whether you need specific resources, need help with a mission, or simply want to see a certain player dead – for all of that, you can commission your own quest.
This is also intended to bring in the fresh element, as player quests would be an exciting innovation that many other games have failed at.
By the way, The Invitation will feature permadeath. If you die, whether by an AI-controlled or human opponent, you will lose all your possessions.

When is the new MMO shooter going to be released? An alpha launch for the backers, i.e., supporters of the game, is planned for May 2021. There is currently no specific date for the release of the finished title, but that is likely still far off.
For which platforms will The Invitation be released? So far, only a PC release has been mentioned.

Players are currently reacting quite divided to the announcement and the first details about The Invitation.
What is praised about The Invitation: Some say The Invitation already makes a very appealing impression in terms of graphics. The concept with a focus on player quests sounds quite exciting and promising.
They are curious to see how the title develops, are looking forward to more information and new material, and wish the developers much success.
What is viewed critically in The Invitation: Others, however, point out that several ambitious titles have already failed because of player quests.
Moreover, the little gameplay shown doesn’t offer much insight. So far, the game looks like a generic survival MMO similar to Rust and feels absolutely boring. Furthermore, the post-apocalyptic setting is already overdone for some.
Also, the fact that so little gameplay is shown makes some interested parties wary. After all, people don’t want to pump their money into something without knowing.
The Invitation on Kickstarter – How to get involved
What is the campaign about? With the campaign on Kickstarter, the developers hope to secure financial resources for the further development of The Invitation. They have set a goal of €120,000. As of May 8, 2 days after the campaign started, they are currently at €3,930.
How the development is supposed to proceed: With the Kickstarter campaign, the base game is financed, which is to serve as a foundation for further modular content. After that, further content is to be implemented into the base game in small steps in the form of so-called roadpoints, without interruption and for free.
