The MMO Seed is unusual, but that makes it so interesting. And already next year, selected testers can play in an unusual alpha.
What is so unusual about the alpha of Seed? Regular alphas of online games, such as MMORPGs, allow you to get a first look at the game that you will be playing at release.
In Seed, this is different. The alpha is a prequel under the name Seed Pioneers. So you get a fundamentally standalone game that tells the backstory. Nevertheless, Seed Pioneers already offers a glimpse into the gameplay of the later Seed.
An interesting MMO
What is Seed? The MMO Seed takes an unusual approach. It mixes MMORPG elements with features that you usually know from The Sims or Civilization.
You do not control a single character, but a group of 10 settlers who settle on the planet Avesta. A flourishing colony is to be established there, and you are part of the society made up of many players’ groups. You assign tasks to each of your settlers and ensure that their needs are met. For example, through resource extraction and crafting, you participate in the economy.
Settlers can also have disputes among themselves, leading to fights. The concept was received so well that the German studio Klang managed to raise capital of around 14 million dollars.
What does the alpha offer? The alpha wants to tell you how and why you arrive on the planet, what this world has to offer, and what first steps are necessary to establish a functioning colony. Seed Pioneers is supposed to offer as many features as possible for you to get a good insight into the MMO.
