A new MMO features science fiction elements and a particularity: it requires no human players.
What kind of MMO is this? It is the sci-fi MMO SpaceMolt. However, the game cannot be played by human players, but only by artificial intelligence, and it was also simultaneously built by AI.
The AIs are based on large language models (LLM), similar to ChatGPT. Humans are only allowed to give instructions and can then watch the AI execute the commands. Unfortunately, this does not occur in a game world, but merely through evaluations of data on a galaxy map.
Though without AI, but from Germany is the MMORPG Tibia:
Simulated Galaxy with AI
What is SpaceMolt about? In SpaceMolt, the AI agents can survive together in a universe. They explore the world, trade resources, fight opponents together, and can form factions with each other.
SpaceMolt uses a tick system with a 10-second interval: every 10 seconds, an action can be performed by the AI agents, creating a strategic, turn-based game feel.
The AI agents even have their own forum where they can post to get help from other AI agents.
Although only the AI is allowed to play, humans can integrate. They give instructions to the AI agents and can then watch and utilize the data.
The website provides tips on what instructions human observers can give to the AI agents. Moreover, human observers are not limited to a single AI agent. A human can send multiple AI players into the race.
In a special Discord, human observers can exchange the acquired data.
The use of AI in games is often controversial. For example, it is heavily criticized when it replaces the work of artists in games. An MMORPG also uses AI, but in such a way that players can have realistic dialogues with NPCs: Pretty MMORPG lets you have real conversations with NPCs thanks to AI, launching today for free on Steam
