The MMO New World from Amazon has resumed testing with players. Interest is high because many want to try the “new” New World. Overall, the mood is rather mixed.
What kind of test is this? On February 14, the developers of New World announced that they would resume alpha testing with invited players. However, these tests are under an NDA, which is expected to be lifted only for the closed beta.
Nevertheless, initial voices are reporting that they allegedly participated in the alpha. However, this cannot be verified, and no evidence has been provided. The so-called testers are mainly dissatisfied with the new development of New World.
Especially the users on reddit are expressing critical views. In the meantime, the developers have also responded to the criticism.
Alleged testers criticize lack of risk and insufficient PvP
What exactly are the testers complaining about? The main criticism of the alleged testers is that they seem to quickly lose motivation for New World (reddit). This is also said to be due to the fact that there is no forced PvP and thus no risk anymore.
Many simply see no advantage in activating optional PvP and fear that New World could die out after release due to a lack of long-term engagement.
A general slowness that the game allegedly did not have in the first alpha has also been noted by several users (reddit). However, they do not provide a clear explanation of what is supposed to be slow about the MMO.
What do the critics want for PvP? Many critical voices want the old PvP back. However, compromises would also be possible. Various users have suggested ways to change PvP:
- Safe zones for PvE players and unsafe zones for PvP players (reddit)
- A restriction preventing high-level characters from attacking low-level characters (reddit)
- A restriction that prevents PvP for the first 20 levels but then makes it mandatory (reddit)
- A direct option at character creation to choose whether to play PvE or PvP (reddit)
- Separate servers for PvP fans
Is the old system coming back? In the meantime, the team from New World has also commented on the criticism of PvP. They state that there is no way back to a full-loot PvP game. While changes to PvP are still to come, it will not be like it was in the first alpha.
There is a reason why many of the alpha testers could name the names of the other testers. This suggests that interest in the old New World appears to be low. The developers, on the other hand, would especially appreciate feedback on the combat system.
Positive voices see potential in New World
Are there also positive voices? Positive impressions of New World are rarely read but are also present. It is said that New World has a lot of potential (reddit), also because of the good graphics and the basic idea of bringing PvE and PvP fans together.
However, the developers still have a lot of work ahead of them before the MMO is supposed to be released in May 2020. Much appears, especially in the PvE to be unfinished, which the developers themselves have also confirmed.
Lots of anticipation on Twitter and MeinMMO: Although there are negative voices, excitement and curiosity prevail in many areas.
Following the announcement of the alpha tests, there were especially on Twitter positive reactions and the desire to be able to get hands-on with the MMO. Also, new information and videos are eagerly awaited.
Here on MeinMMO, many readers have also welcomed the changes to the direction of New World. Whether this will actually succeed will likely be shown by the beta tests without NDA.

How can I participate in the tests for New World? The current alpha test can only be accessed by invitation. You can register on the official website.
In the coming weeks, more people should be invited to the tests. In April, the closed beta is expected to start, at which point the NDA will also be lifted. You can definitely participate if you pre-order New World.
Are you curious about New World? What do you think of the reorientation of the MMO?
