The release date of Amazon’s big new MMO New World has been pushed to August. Quotes from alleged alpha testers and their reactions to the delay are circulating in forums and on social media.
What is being said? While the release of New World has been delayed from May 26 to August 25, the closed alpha test continues, and more players are receiving their access codes each week.
Some players who claim to have been in this alpha have now come forward on Reddit and social media to share their opinions on the delayed release. They do so secretly and in whispers because all information about the alpha of New World is subject to a strict NDA. Information from the alpha is not supposed to be shared with the public and should only be discussed in a special forum for New World.
Therefore, it is also not possible to verify whether these players reporting from the alpha were indeed in the alpha.
Alleged alpha testers welcome New World’s delay

Some comments justified their support for the delay by stating that the alpha was already too close to the actual release and felt too unfinished. According to these testers, the developers could use the extra time well.
As all information regarding the alpha is under NDA, there are no concrete and reliable reports on what exactly the problems of the alpha are. There is also a lack of solid evidence for the statements and that these players are indeed participating in the alpha. They should therefore be taken with caution.
Mix of relief and concern
What do other players think? Fans who have not been fortunate enough to get into the alpha are mostly relieved about the delay, although many comments carry a certain sadness:
Very unfortunate, but I am happy to wait. Better to delay and finish properly than to throw it out unfinished. I am still immensely looking forward to the game.

This is why fans are worried: There are voices that view the release delay with concern. Especially the time when many people are staying at home and are thirsting for entertainment could have brought fresh wind and variety with New World.
However, the delay to August is also considered problematic due to competition. The next World of Warcraft expansion, Shadowlands, is set to be released in summer 2020, which will attract many MMORPG fans.

Since MMOs rely on players playing them over long periods, Cyberpunk 2077 would fall into New World’s new release window.
