Since September 2018, the first alpha test of New World has been running, but it will soon come to an end. However, this does not really bring the start of a beta or even the release of the MMO any closer.
When does the first alpha of New World end? In a blog post, the developers of New World announced that they will end their first alpha phase on June 3rd. On that day, the test servers will be taken offline for the first time.
Until June 3rd, however, players who were invited to the alpha of the MMO can continue to test extensively and provide feedback.
Why is the first alpha ending? In the roughly 9 months of the alpha, a lot of feedback has been given by the players. This has already resulted in changes to the entry into New World, which were shown in a leak.
However, the developers apparently want to make some more extensive changes. These are meant to significantly change the game world. The servers will be taken offline to prepare for these changes.
New World was actually quite advanced: According to voices around the alpha, the MMO was actually already in a good condition. All major systems regarding expansion and the battle for fortresses were functioning, and both the combat and crafting systems were convincing.
Amazon also began involving the press at the beginning of the year and offered opportunities to play New World at various locations around the world. We were also there in Berlin and documented our first steps in the MMO.
New World also became increasingly present on Twitter and other social media. Recently, all weapons of the game were presented. A survival game, in which the community made decisions for the character, was well received by fans.
However, it seems that the alpha testers found content that still needs to be revised.
When will we see something from the game again? There is still no official statement on how long the revisions will take and when players will be able to dive back into the world of New World.
However, based on the statements in the blog post, it is likely that due to the significant changes, another test phase will follow. An open beta and a release seem to still be a long way off for the MMO.
But there are also some other MMOs to look forward to this year:
