With Fractured, there is currently a very interesting new sandbox MMORPG in development that uses the wonder technology SpatialOS to create a believable game world.
Fractured aims to provide you with a dynamic gaming experience in three worlds, where your actions truly have consequences. The worlds change depending on what you do.
To enable such dynamic and simulated worlds, the currently seven-member development team uses the technology SpatialOS. It is specifically designed so that even small teams can develop vast, dynamic worlds. SpatialOS is no pipe dream – an investor valued the then-small startup enough to invest, which raised its company to 1 billion US dollars.
What is Fractured?
- Fractured places you in a huge sandbox, where you can forge your own path
- You explore large worlds – either alone as the lone wolf or together with other players
- You gather resources to craft better items that you can also sell
- You fight against hordes of monsters – alone or in a group with friends
- Your actions are meant to dynamically influence the world – for example, by freezing a river and creating a bridge
- You choose your hero from three races (humans, beastmen, and demons), each race lives in its own world
- These worlds are divided into Tartarus (open PvP), Arboreus (cooperative gameplay), and Syndesia (a mix of PvE and PvP)
- It is possible to travel between the worlds – but there are limitations
- There may be immense wars between guilds – SpatialOS is supposed to enable these battles
- It’s possible to build settlements and expand them into cities and kingdoms
- Your skill is crucial in the game, not your level or equipment
- The battles are action-packed, similar to hack ‘n slash games like Diablo
- Gameplay is from an isometric perspective, like in Diablo
Kickstarter campaign to fund development
The developers of Fractured are currently planning a Kickstarter campaign to secure funding for the game. The crowdfunding campaign is set to start in June, and the team aims to raise at least $250,000. If all goes well, an alpha phase is scheduled for this year.
An initial pre-alpha video shows you a very early version of the MMO. Many details are being kept by the developers for the Kickstarter campaign, which will then introduce the MMO to you in more detail.
