Cyberpunk 2077 with characters from World of Warcraft? This is how brilliant it would look – and so much work is involved.
No matter how long you think about it, Cyberpunk 2077 and World of Warcraft have hardly anything in common. A crossover of both games sounds absurd, and few could imagine that it could actually look good. Luckily, there is someone who belongs to those “few” and has simply created this in a cool trailer.
What you can see: The video shows the trailer of Cyberpunk 2077 from 2018. At that time, it was presented at E3. However, only the audio track was used; the entire visuals of the trailer were recreated with the characters from World of Warcraft. Whether it’s elves in tight clothing with neon tattoos or stocky orcs with rocket launchers and cyber eyes – everything found a place in the trailer:
Which locations were used? Many locations seem to have been manually built, and many of the characters were edited afterward to be equipped with technical devices or tattoos. However, some environments players may recognize, as parts of the supposed “Night City” are simply taken from Mechagon. Other parts come from the goblin starting area or were even created completely anew.
It’s amazing to see how quickly one gets used to this mixed style. One almost begins to dream and imagines that one day the goblin and gnome cities in World of Warcraft could look like this.
Many details that impress: If you look closely at the trailer, you’ll find an extreme number of references and details from other games and media. For example, you can see the spray logo “Well played” on a wall, which comes from Hearthstone. Just next to it, you can see a character from the anime “Neon Genesis Evangelion,” which also took place in a dystopian future.
Can such a setting work? By the way, this idea of a mixed setting is not entirely new. If one were to mix World of Warcraft with Cyberpunk 2077, one would have quite exactly the world of Shadowrun.
It is a futuristic game world where everything is governed by large corporations, while magic with elves, trolls, and dragons has also entered the world.
An apparently insane combination that can actually work well – as the movie “Bright” proved a few years ago.
What do you think of this trailer? A cool idea or are these two games that just shouldn’t be mixed?
Cyberpunk is currently getting a lot of unexpected advertising – such as a porn parody that was released before the game.
