Secondhand Warhammer, trading “used” figures
Another very popular method to save money is buying figures from other players. Sometimes fans stop with their hobby, their relationship status changes, or they just want to try a different army.
In such cases, existing armies are often sold, sometimes at a significantly lower price. Especially painted minis are usually significantly cheaper than new ones from the shop.
Original figures come in parts and unpainted. You first have to cut them out, assemble them, and paint them before you can use them (at least officially). This takes a lot of work, but it is part of the hobby – and for many, a reason why the price isn’t that bad. Given the amount of time you invest, Warhammer even remains a good price/time ratio.
Since you have no influence on how the figures look when buying used armies, you have to make cuts, and especially if they have not been painted by professionals, they may not meet your expectations. However, they are cheaper.
On Reddit, a dealer shares his experiences and says that eBay is not really a good place for such bargains. Craigslist or Facebook are better suited. However, it’s always important: Do thorough research on the sellers and the product you want to buy beforehand.
Buying used figures always carries a certain risk because you are usually buying from private individuals. It is not necessarily suitable for inexperienced beginners, but rather for Warhammer fans who know what they want.
