The new Season 5 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone brings a “Mini Battle Royale” into the game, allowing you to experience all the Warzone action in less than half the time. MeinMMO presents the new mode.
What is “Mini Royale”? Call of Duty: Warzone regularly reinvents itself with new modes. So far we have seen:
- Juggernaut Royale – Here, the Juggernaut suits could be found in Verdansk.
- Classic BR – Fewer Warzone features, more reminiscent of BR in PUBG.
- Stimulus BR – As long as you have $4,500 in the bank, you keep respawning. The Gulag is disabled.
- 200 BR – 200 players instead of the usual 150 soldiers.
With the start of Season 5, there is a new mode: Mini Royale. Here you have fewer players, but a smaller battlefield and significantly less time until the end of the match. MeinMMO introduces the rules of the new action mode. Here are the patch notes for the complete 50GB update of Season 5.
New Battle Royale for those who find the regular BR too long
How does the mode differ from regular BR? In the blog post for Season 5, the CoD creators describe the mode with the words: “Here you only have the first and the last 5 minutes of a normal Battle Royale” and that really hits the nail on the head.
The usual Warzone action is compressed to less than half of the usual match time. For example, your first free loadout drop comes after about 1:30 minutes and the dangerous gas circle is already as small after 12:00 minutes as it usually is in the late game of a normal round in Warzone. Here are the details:
- Mini Royale starts as a trio match
- Only 78 players
- The playing field is only about 1/3 the size as usual at the start
- Total game time maxes out at just under 15 minutes
- Gulag closes after 5:10 minutes
- Loadout drop comes after 1:50 minutes
- After 12:40 minutes, the endgame circle starts
The focus of the mode is clearly on action. The sometimes sluggish mid-game of Warzone almost completely disappears and is replaced by enemy bullets flying toward you. The mode is therefore ideal for players who are deterred by the long concentration phases of regular BR matches.
Circle Timer in Mini Royale (in minutes)
| Circle | Open | Closes | Total |
| 1 | 1:50 | 3:20 | 5:10 |
| 2 | 1:15 | 2:10 | 8:35 |
| 3 | 1:00 | 1:30 | 11:05 |
| 4 | 0:45 | 0:50 | 12:40 |
Mini Royale hardly gives you time to catch your breath
Do I need different tactics? Many of your usual tactics can be forgotten in this mode. There is hardly any time to complete a contract or gather money for loadouts. Especially since you get a free loadout drop already after less than 2 minutes.
Coordinate your trio loadouts and play from the get-go as if you were already in the endgame – so with full throttle. The first gas circle helps with that. Unlike the first circle during a normal round of Warzone, you can casually escape the gas here and run straight toward the zone with the gas.
The new mode plays quickly and pleasantly. Between the start and the decisive phase, there is at most a short pause where you should gather and communicate. Otherwise, you are constantly on the hunt or fleeing until the tactical showdown comes after at most just under 12 minutes.
What do you think of the new action mode of Warzone? A touch of “Shipment 24/7” in Verdansk?
