What are llamas used for? In Minecraft, you can use llamas to transport items or to ride on them. They are cute animals that many players like to have in their base.
Here we clarify the most important questions about llama food as well as breeding and taming.
Food for Llamas – How to Breed?
This is what they eat: You can feed llamas in Minecraft with wheat and hay bales. To feed a llama, take the food into your action bar. Select this item and then use it directly on the llama to feed it. If it is not hungry, you cannot feed it.
In which biomes can you find llamas? You can encounter llamas in the following biomes:
- Scruffy Hills
- Scruffy Gravel Hills
- Scruffy Forest
- Savanna Plateau
- Mountain Range
Breeding llamas: To breed llamas, you need to feed the parent llamas hay bales. If you give two llama parents standing close to each other the hay bales, they will mate. You will see hearts rising and a baby llama will appear.
Taming Llama in Minecraft
This is what you need to do:
- First, you need to find a llama in one of the mentioned biomes
- Now take 10 wheat or 5 hay bales and feed the llama with them
- Now you can interact with the llama using your bare hand (without a selected item) and press your use button
- If you did everything correctly, you will now ride the llama and have tamed it
- Red hearts will rise from the llama
- If the llama throws you off, it hasn’t eaten enough yet. So keep getting back on its back until it no longer throws you off
- Taming without food: You can also tame a llama without food. Keep getting back on the llama until the red hearts rise
Riding a llama: You cannot control the movements of the llama when you are riding it. However, you can take a lead and pull the animal in one direction behind you.
Equipping Llama with a Chest or Carpet
How to place a chest on the llama: First, tame the llama as described in our guide. Now select a chest from your inventory and put it in your action bar. By right-clicking on the llama with the selected chest, you equip the animal with the chest. You should then see the llama with the chest in the game.
To open the chest, sit on the llama and open the inventory (PC: E, Xbox: Y, PS: Triangle).
How to place a carpet on the llama: This works similarly to the chest.
- Tame a llama as described in our guide
- Sit on the tamed llama
- Take a carpet into your action bar and then use the button to open the llama’s inventory. On PC, this would be the E key. On Xbox consoles, it is the Y key, and on PlayStation consoles, the Triangle
- In the new window, drag the carpet from your inventory onto the action field to the left of the image of the llama
- After that, you can close the inventory
- Note: You can create a carpet using 2 wool blocks side by side. From 8 white carpets and one dye in the middle, you can create colorful carpets
Once you have closed the inventory, you should now see the llama with the equipped carpet. You can use all kinds of colors for the carpet and dress the llama according to your taste. Many players choose different colors to create a colorful herd.
You can also equip a chest and a carpet on the same llama at the same time.
