Hardly any Minecraft project is celebrated as much and is as satisfying to look at as this falling sand that forms a picture.
Although Minecraft is fundamentally a rather simple game, players continuously manage to impress and create highly creative artworks within the game. Some of these are large structures like castles or entire cities, while others are a creative exploitation of the game mechanics. The latter is the case with KevinJNguy01, who creates an artwork with colored sand that is second to none.
What is there to see? In the Minecraft subreddit, KevinJNguy01 has released a video of his latest Minecraft project. It shows a strangely elegant structure made of stacked sand. After a single torch is broken, the entire structure begins to collapse and slowly forms an image – precisely on the last block.
How does it work? Sand is one of the few blocks in Minecraft that is affected by gravity. This means that when a block of sand is “floating in the air” and is not supported by anything, it will fall until it reaches the ground. That is exactly what KevinJNguy01 has taken advantage of to create a huge artwork.
The catch: Torches attached to the sand blocks keep the next sand block in position. When the sand block with the torches falls, the torch becomes detached, causing the next sand block to fall as well. This results in a pretty long chain reaction that slowly creates the image of the Minecraft main character Steve enjoying the sunset.
