Bet you haven’t seen a weird staircase like this in Minecraft yet? It’s brilliant – and also a little bit crazy.
After all these years, one would think that players have discovered and analyzed all the quirks and secrets of Minecraft. Yet, time and again, players find new mechanics or funny combinations of blocks that no one has thought of before. This creates a pretty steep staircase whose efficiency is hard to beat.
What’s special about the staircase? The staircase not only combines 6 different types of blocks, but it also achieves the steepest ascent possible in Minecraft. Over the distance of a single block, it rises a full three blocks in height. Regular stairs can only achieve a height of one block – just regular stairs. The staircase consists of:
- A quartz step
- A chest
- A bell
- A glass pane
- A cake with 6 pieces bitten off
- An open trapdoor
You can check out the exact layout of the staircase in this little clip by the creator nowitscleanandheavy:

How does it work? The 6 materials used all have different shapes and fill a Minecraft block differently. When approaching this combination of blocks exactly from the middle, a small rise alternates between the blocks on the left and right – essentially creating a natural staircase. Although not particularly beautiful, it is extremely efficient.
However, one should be careful that no glutton trips over the staircase. Because once you eat too much cake, the staircase stops working and you get stuck. So, think carefully about who you want to invite to your wonder staircase.
The community is excited: The Minecraft players on the subreddit are thrilled with this staircase. The post with the idea is one of the most positively marked posts of all time, having received over 116,000 upvotes.
By now, this staircase has even become a small meme. The user OneTrueKingofOOO took on the opposite task and built the “least steep staircase,” which has also received over 35,000 upvotes.

This is probably just the beginning of a pretty crazy new Minecraft trend – as even more effective staircases are already being built.
What do you think of this staircase? Will you use it in towers or do you find it too ugly and cumbersome?
