Celebrating the university graduation in Minecraft ? This might have once been seen as a joke, but now it has become a reality – and it was quite fun.
The Corona situation has led people around the world to connect in new and different ways. In times of contact restrictions and social distancing, students also have to find new ways to manage their daily lives. And hardly anyone wants to miss out on their graduation celebration – that’s why it was celebrated in Minecraft with some funny gags.
Who did this? The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) simply held its graduation ceremony in Minecraft. This was thanks to the Electronic Gaming Society, which painstakingly recreated the entire campus. From the cafeteria to a lecture hall and the large garden with a statue, everything was accurately rebuilt. What started as a small project quickly attracted many helpers who provided feedback to each other and thus recreated the entire complex.
Certificates from the Iron Golem: A special highlight is likely the custom skin for the Iron Golem. In Minecraft, this is actually a powerful mob that protects players and villagers from attackers like zombies. However, in this project, it had the face of the RIT president. During the graduation ceremony, it was supposed to hand out the certificates to the individually called students. Students in Japan also celebrate their graduation in Minecraft.
How did the project go? Anyone who wants to see the final implementation can watch the recording of the live stream. Unfortunately, it was plagued by some mishaps, as the server struggled with significant lags and delays. However, the participants did not let this discourage them and carried on regardless.
What do you think of such a project? A cool idea or rather strange?
