What are Axolotls and what do they do in Minecraft? Axolotls are a species of salamander and belong to the plethodontid family. They are usually found wild only near Mexico. However, some also keep them at home in aquariums. And these cute amphibians will soon be a part of Minecraft. During the announcement of the huge “Caves & Cliffs” update, they showcased these little creatures in the Minecraft world.

The Axolotl Bucket in Minecraft
The water-loving creatures do not just walk on land next to you. To transport and catch them, you need a water bucket, similar to fishing.
How do you catch Axolotls? When you encounter the creatures, take a bucket and simply catch them with it. You can then pour the buckets out near your house in a cave and give the animals a home there.
Those who want can secure several of these buckets filled with Axolotls and bring them along for your next exploration of an ocean monument.
In the Minecraft Live stream, the Axolotls were introduced. At around 40 minutes in the video, the segment about the new creatures starts.
Using Axolotls in Underwater Battles
If you release a few captured Axolotls near you, they will subsequently fight by your side. They are friendly towards you.
How strong are Axolotls? Initial findings suggest that Axolotls are not particularly strong on their own. However, you can release several buckets at once to provide your opponent with many targets.
Additionally, Axolotls have the ability to “play dead”. Enemies will not attack them then. This gives the water creatures the chance to regenerate health points and come back into the fight stronger.
Who do they attack? Axolotls attack Guardians and Elder Guardians who protect ocean monuments. Fish and underwater zombies are also among their enemies, as the developers explained in the stream.
Mojang also explained that Axolotls can even heal you. However, how exactly this mechanic works is still unclear.
Where to find Axolotls?
In these biomes: The creatures live in Lush biomes. Specifically, in the new Lush Caves. You can even discover such a cave above ground, as the new Acacia trees provide you with a crucial clue. Dig down near the roots of these trees, because there lies a Lush Cave waiting.

Yes, both the Warden and the Axolotls will be found in different caves. The Warden resides in darker areas and the Axolotls live in the Lush Caves.
Different colors: Keep an eye out for Axolotls. They appear in various colors. The colors pink, brown, and green have already been confirmed.
