A pyramid in Minecraft defies all dimensions. It is likely the largest pyramid ever built – and that in survival mode!
Large construction projects are not rare in Minecraft. From time to time, we report on players gathering particularly large amounts of resources to create a monument for (digital) eternity. However, the project by AhRayWasTaken is likely to surpass the known standards once again. For he has created a gigantic pyramid, along with a beautiful sculpture inside.
What kind of project is this? In a time-lapse video, AhRayWasTaken shows what he has been doing in Minecraft over the past few weeks. On a very devastated-looking surface, he begins to create the sculpture of a hand holding an open sarcophagus. This sculpture alone is already impressive – but pales in comparison to the size that the pyramid subsequently occupies.
What is special about it? Several factors. For one, the fact that this project was accomplished in ‘survival mode’ is particularly fascinating. This means all resources had to be mined or found in other ways beforehand. In this case, a gigantic desert was mined for it. The necessary sand for creating the pyramid alone consumed the resources of a vast area – here is a small ‘before/after’ comparison of the desert that was mined for this.
How long did it take? The entire project took about 2 months. The footage he gathered over a second Minecraft account has a total length of an impressive 208 hours. One has to invest quite a few leisure hours every day to complete such large projects.
The fact that such large projects are even possible is mainly due to one of the latest Minecraft patches, which has drastically increased the size of the game world.
Why does the environment look so flat? AhRayWasTaken has cleared a huge area down to almost the lowest level in Minecraft. However, he did not do this “by hand”, but used a mechanical construction known in Minecraft jargon as a “World Eater”. These are machines created through redstone mechanisms that repeatedly drop TNT from above onto the world and slowly but surely erode the entire world. A well-known “World Eater” concept is, for example, the one by ilmango:
But despite – or rather because of – the use of such systems, the project with the pyramid is surely one that many players will remember for a long time. Because creating a pyramid with addons or in creative mode is something most can do. But implementing such a project in survival mode takes significantly more time and a lot of perseverance.
Have you also implemented some similarly large projects in Minecraft? Or do you lack the patience for that?
