A major change is coming for Minecraft. Soon, you will be able to take friends on an extraordinary flying mount.
Minecraft is already a large game, which is expanded every year through patches and new content updates. At Minecraft Live, the plans for the upcoming year were now unveiled, revealing a highlight. Alongside the graphical improvements, there will soon be a new feature that allows you to explore the overworld of Minecraft in an entirely new way: riding on the back of a Ghast.
How do you get the flying mount? To unlock the flying mount, you must first find a “Withered Ghast” in the Nether or create one using a Ghast tear and a bone block. Then, you pour some water on it to create a small Ghastling. However, it needs to be cared for for a while to grow big and strong – only then will it become a “happy Ghast” and can be equipped with Ghast harness.
From then on, you can ride the Ghast and at least explore the overworld. The Ghast probably won’t want – or be able – to return to the Nether or the End.
If you want, you can also take other players with you on the Ghast. No longer interested in your previous base? Just grab your group and fly with the Ghast to nicer places to set up an outpost.
Are there alternatives? Right now, you can fly in Minecraft using Elytra. This is a special cloak from the “End”, the last area of Minecraft. It can be used together with rockets to swiftly dash through the air. However, flying with Elytra is not only dangerous but also limited to a single character. Traveling on a Ghast will, therefore – presumably – be a bit more comfortable and more suited for group travel.
When is it coming? There is still no exact release date for the rideable Ghast. However, the feature is expected to be tested in the coming weeks, so players can already try out the new feature with a snapshot (basically a beta test). Before the flying Ghasts become part of Minecraft, several more new features will be introduced. In just a few days, the next patch for Minecraft is coming, and it brings some really piggy content.
