Can you play through Minecraft while playing music? Yes, it is possible – with a piano as the keyboard.
Most of us will play computer games traditionally with a keyboard. Some might also use a gamepad on the PC, as it feels better to them. But there are always a few crazy players who choose very special input methods – whether it’s a dance mat in World of Warcraft or multiple potatoes in Minecraft. Now someone has completely “played through” Minecraft on a piano – meaning they even defeated the Ender Dragon.
What exactly happened? The Reddit user Jachael123_ posted a video in the Minecraft subreddit showing him play. Basically nothing special – if he hadn’t used a very strange input device. Instead of using a regular keyboard, he uses a piano as a controller. The different keys and sounds were assigned to the regular keys of a keyboard. In the following compilation, you can see how he learns the controls and then plays through Minecraft over the course of the 10-minute video – this is achieved by killing the Ender Dragon.

It’s especially cool when Jachael takes a quick “break” to play the typical Minecraft soundtrack – every time he reaches some small milestone.
How did he do it? With software called “Bome MIDI Translator Pro,” Jachael was able to assign all the piano keys to actual keys on a keyboard. This was particularly critical for cursor movements, as they also had to be assigned to individual keys. Only then could the mouse be controlled well, which was necessary not only for crafting and mining but also for the fight against the Ender Dragon.
Overall, the “run” lasted more than 7 hours. This also includes the time Jachael needed to properly learn the controls with the piano.
