On October 2, the YouTuber Dream finally showed his face. The American became extremely popular through the survival game Minecraft . The video in which he shows his face received over 14 million views and 1.7 million likes within a few hours: Yes, Dream’s face reveal is really a big deal.
Why is Dream so popular? Dream is closely associated with the title Minecraft and has built a large fan base with creative videos. Especially during the Corona pandemic, his popularity exploded:
- 30.5 million people follow him on YouTube
- Whenever he is on Twitch, he immediately achieves record numbers
- He is so popular that he makes a joke out of manipulating votes in Minecraft. He is a masterful troll on Twitter.
He became known with the format “Manhunt” in Minecraft: In this format, he tries to finish Minecraft as quickly as possible without dying, while other players hunt him and try to prevent him from reaching his goal.
Dream was involved in a cheating scandal in October 2020: He achieved an incredibly fast speedrun: He was accused that it could not possibly have all been above board. He had too much luck with drops.
But Dream proclaimed his innocence. Mathematically, such a thing is possible. Ultimately, he confessed that he had played on a modified version of Minecraft; he just forgot about it.
The Man with the Mask
What’s with his face? Since Dream has been on air, his face has been hidden behind a mask: He also uses the mask as a trademark, selling merchandise products with it.
Time and again, Dream has hinted at he would show his face. But because Dream is also a terrible troll, one never knew if he meant it seriously.
But yesterday, in the night from Sunday, October 2, to Monday, October 3, it finally happened.
That was the revelation: After a foreplay, in which he actually just wanted to buy time, Dream took off his mask in the new video after about 75 seconds and said:
Hi, it feels so weird to speak into a camera for the first time. Hi, I’m Clay, also known as Dream. You might have heard of me – or maybe not.
Dream says: Some fans went “a bit too far” in their hunt for his face
Why is he showing his face now? After so many years, Dream now wants to meet other influencers in real life. Especially his long-time friend, GeorgeNotFound, who is visiting him from England to the USA. He has known him since he was 11 years old, says Dream.
And when he is with him, he wants to do something with him and meet other content creators.
I want to be a human. I’ve been holed up this whole time – so many wanted to leak my face.
Apparently, Dream was just fed up with the fuss about his face. Some people had “gone a bit too far” in their hunt for his face, he says kindly – he loves his fans, but …
It sounds like Dream has had one too many encounters with a somewhat crazy Minecraft superfan.

What are the reactions? They are fantastic – the video has already received 14 million views and 1.7 million likes after 7 hours. On Twitter, there are 50,600 comments, 573,000 likes, and 85,000 retweets.
