Why is Sony talking about Helldivers 2? The CES is one of the largest trade fairs for consumer electronics worldwide and provides many technology companies a platform to showcase their latest products and work. Sony has been a regular exhibitor there for many years, often taking the opportunity to display innovative products, such as the PS5 VR2, which they introduced in 2022.

What is the next step for the brand? As Sony revealed in their presentation, the company is working with Sony Pictures on a film adaptation of Helldivers 2. The reason for this is likely provided by Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions.
In his announcement, he states that Helldivers 2 is “incredibly popular,” which is probably reason enough for Sony to produce the game as the next film adaptation. According to SteamDB, over 450,000 players were online on Steam at peak times. According to Sony’s financial report (via sony.com), Helldivers 2 sold over 12 million copies in 12 weeks since its release.
That was so much that the head himself said, buying new servers won’t help anymore, as we simply hit the limits. Besides the many players on Steam, the shooter was also popular on PS5.
Previously, the media and technology company had also adapted games like Uncharted, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, and The Last of Us into films. Fans of the zombie series can also look forward to a new season starting in April 2025 in the USA.

After a failed attempt to bring the game as a series to Netflix, the company seems to be taking matters into their own hands and is working with Columbia Pictures on a film.
