Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 had the most successful launch in the history of Call of Duty and boosts sales on PS5 and Steam.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was released on October 25. Since then, numerous players have been diving into the shooter and testing the various game modes. Black Ops 6 offers a solo campaign, a multiplayer mode, and a turn-based zombie mode that CoD veterans had wished for in last year’s Modern Warfare.
And even though the ratings are rather mixed and many games still see room for improvement, the latest installment in the Call of Duty series can celebrate a successful launch. At least that was revealed by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in an earnings call of the company.
Black Ops 6 celebrates the most successful CoD release
What does the Microsoft CEO say? In the earnings call, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 celebrated the most successful release in the history of Call of Duty.
Never has a Call of Duty had more players on the release day. Additionally, they set a record for new Game Pass subscribers on launch day as well as increased the sales of Call of Duty compared to the previous year on PS5 and Steam (via Microsoft.com).
Satya Nadella says: “The release of Black Ops 6 last week was the largest Call of Duty release of all time and set a record for Day-1 players as well as for new Game Pass subscribers on launch day. And sales on PlayStation and Steam rose by over 60% compared to the previous year.”
Why is CoD discussed at Microsoft? Microsoft announced in January 2022 that they want to buy Activision Blizzard and thus take over the CoD publisher Activision. The deal was finalized on October 13, 2023.
Success despite criticism
According to Satya Nadella, Black Ops 6 and Treyarch can therefore rejoice over a successful release – even though there is indeed criticism of the game. Players primarily criticize the too small, sometimes chaotic maps and the spawns in multiplayer. Some players are also plagued by game crashes.
However, there is also praise from the community. The campaign and the zombie mode are well received by many players, and the new omni-movement is also fun for some: “They made a good game again after 4 years” – Black Ops 6 reminds players how good Call of Duty can be
