At the recent X019 Inside Xbox conference, Phil Spencer promised that the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV will be available on Xbox.
What did Spencer say? During a press conference before the event, the head of Microsoft’s Xbox division emphasized that the MMORPG FFXIV will be coming to Xbox.
[…] You can be sure that we will bring the game [FFXIV] to Xbox. We have a very good relationship with Yoshida-san and are looking at what it means to bring a cross-platform MMO to Xbox that has been running for years.

The director of FFXIV, Naoki Yoshida, has been negotiating with Microsoft for years to bring his MMORPG to Xbox platforms. According to him, the one big condition for a port was unrestricted cross-play.
Now it seems that Spencer and Yoshida have found a way to meet these conditions.
For which Xbox will it be released? While Spencer clearly states that Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Xbox, he does not explicitly say which Xbox console he means. He also did not mention an approximate release timeframe for the MMORPG on his console.
This could theoretically mean both the current Xbox One as well as the new Xbox “Project Scarlett”. It could also possibly mean both, as FFXIV has previously released between two console generations.
At that time, the PS3 version was shut down about 4 years after the original release of “A Realm Reborn” in 2017. It is therefore quite possible that a similar scenario could happen with Xbox One and the next Xbox.
This would also fit with Yoshida’s general mindset. He emphasizes time and again that he wants to bring FFXIV to as many platforms as possible.
