While “Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey 2” is currently terrorizing moviegoers, several other horror films are in the works that transform beloved cult figures from our childhood into diabolical monsters. In one case, we can even expect a shock crossover in the style of “Freddy vs. Jason“.
What kind of crossover is that? According to the genre website iHorror, Untouchables Entertainment is said to have started production on “Mickey vs. Winnie”. The main characters include not only Winnie Pooh (in German: Winnie Puuh), who is already successfully shaking up theaters as a horror figure, but also the beloved Mickey Mouse from films, series, and comics (Micky Maus).
The horror film revolves around a group of friends who want to experience a vacation full of thrills in the heart of a dark forest. What they don’t know is that in the 1920s, two prisoners became victims of a curse right there.
Now, these criminals appear as twisted versions of Mickey Mouse and Winnie Pooh to hunt the kids. Similar to the classic “Freddy vs. Jason” from 2003, there is ultimately expected to be a bloody final showdown between the two beloved cult figures from our childhood.
There is not yet a trailer for the new film. So here’s something to brighten your mood – the trailer for Shaun of the Dead is always a hit:
A Poohniverse modeled after Marvel
Wasn’t a horror film with Mickey Mouse already announced? Two actually. A low-budget slasher titled “Mickey’s Mouse Trap” and another project reportedly supported by the producer of Terrifier 2. Thus, “Mickey vs. Winnie” would be the third horror adaptation involving the Disney icon.
The honey-guzzling Winnie Pooh is already much further along. Although “Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey” received mixed reviews, it was able to generate several times its production cost last year. Therefore, the sequel is already running in theaters.
The third installment is firmly planned, along with adaptations of Bambi, Peter Pan, and Pinocchio. In the seventh film, all will come together for a monstrous finale, much like Marvel’s The Avengers and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). At least, that’s the plan announced so far.
Why does Disney allow this? The Mouse Company would probably put a stop to it if it were possible. However, many of our childhood characters in their original form have become so old that they have entered the public domain and can therefore be used in exactly that form without the creator having to grant permission or fees being due.
Let’s look at the case of Mickey Mouse. The character’s first appearance was in the film “Steamboat Willie” from 1928. In January 2024, the US copyright will expire. Shortly after that, the first announcements were made for adaptations based on this version of Mickey.
