When will Mewtwo return? Currently, you can still find Mewtwo in regular raids, but starting September 25, invitations for EX-Raids that bring Mewtwo will be distributed.
The legendary Pokémon will not completely disappear from the game; you will get it in EX-Raids. The special thing about the raids is that Mewtwo will learn the exclusive move Shadow Ball there.

When can you fight Mewtwo? Currently, several EX-Raid invitations have already been sent out. These will all still bring you Deoxys.
Only an invitation that you receive from September 25 will actually bring Mewtwo in the EX-Raid.
What makes Mewtwo so special? Mewtwo was previously available in EX-Raid and was then replaced by Deoxys after about a year. So far, Mewtwo could only learn the move Shadow Ball in EX-Raids. This will continue to be the case, as the powerful Ghost move will only be available in EX-Raids.
Mewtwo can also continue to appear as Shiny in EX-Raids. This is new for the special raids. For the first time, a Pokémon can also appear in its shiny version in EX-Raids.
Is Shadow Ball worth it? This move makes Mewtwo one of the best Ghost attackers. It is definitely worth doing the new EX-Raids, as only then will you obtain Mewtwo with Shadow Ball.
How do I participate in an EX-Raid? For an EX-Raid, you need an invitation. You will only receive this if you and many other players have raided at an EX-Raid Arena. Only if enough players have raided there will there be an EX-Raid.
