Metin 2: Der Free2Play-MMORPG-Klassiker jetzt auf Steam

Sometimes they come back. The MMORPG classic Metin 2 is now also playable on Steam.

Metin 2 is probably already one of the grandfathers among MMORPGs. In December 2006, the Asia MMO launched in Germany and has managed to stay on the market to this day. The German/European version is even among the most successful in the world. Now the online game is also available on Steam and, like the regular version, uses a free-to-play model.

Hardly any quests, but a lot of grinding

Metin 2 takes place in a fictional Asian world, where chaos reigns after the impact of a meteor, the Metin Stone.

You create a character from the classes warrior, ninja, sura (a kind of mix between fighter and magician), as well as shaman and the wolf people lycan.

In principle, Metin 2 offers a very classic MMO fare. You are relatively free in what you do in the game, and grinding is at the top of the list. There are very few quests; mainly, it’s about exploring the game world and fighting the plants and animals gone wild due to the Metin Stone. 

This way, your hero improves over time, acquires more powerful equipment, and can take on stronger enemies. Leveling up your hero goes relatively quickly, which provides a motivational boost for many players and encourages them to embark on another journey into the wilderness or the dangerous dungeons. In the cities, on the other hand, you turn your loot into cash and buy better equipment.

PvP plays a big role

In addition to the class, you also choose one of the kingdoms Shinsoo, Chunjo, or Jinno, which are at war with each other. Thus, PvP battles also play a large role. Once you have reached level 15 (out of 120), you can declare yourself ready for PvP, which takes place in the open game world. Guild wars are also possible.

Crafting also plays a role, allowing you to create particularly powerful weapons. With mounts, you can travel faster from point A to point B and, together with your guild, it’s possible to conquer and cultivate lands.

Due to its age, Metin 2 offers dusty graphics that cannot keep up with modern MMORPGs. However, fans of classic fare might overlook this.
