Mesut Özil wants to make a big splash in Fortnite soon. If his career as a footballer ends, his manager said, a career as a professional gamer in Fortnite would be his wish. But can he compete against the 15-year-old prodigies from all over the world?
Who is Mesut Özil and how does he get into Fortnite? Mesut Özil is a 33-year-old Turkish footballer from Germany. He currently plays for the club “Fenerbahçe Istanbul” but rumors suggest that Mesut wants to break into Fortnite eSports after his football career.
According to the president of the Turkish club, Özil needs to focus more on kicking, which is why he has been excluded from the squad this year. So he has enough time to play.
For these reasons, and also due to his increasing age, Özil is thinking about how he could earn money in a forward-looking way.
This is where Fortnite and eSports come into play. Özil’s manager stated, “He will go more into eSports, play himself, and maybe become a professional gamer.” But is that enough to really compete against eSports legends?
Mesut and Fortnite – How good does the footballer play?
To break into eSports, one needs not only talent and hard training but also a sense for the battle royale. It is not easy to survive against 100 players on a large map. Therefore, the competition in Fortnite eSports is huge.
Professionals like Ninja or even aim god Tfue can no longer keep up with the newer generation of 15-year-old prodigies. Tfue himself said that in order to keep up, one would have to inject stem cells into their eyes.
The Fortnite eSports scene is therefore not a battlefield for “old men” and thus, at his still young age of 33, Mesut is already considered an old man there. With practice, he might try to keep up, but it is very unlikely that Mesut can prevail.
As a professional gamer, it is indeed hard to keep up with constantly new competition. For instance, comparing Tfue’s gameplay with Özil’s, Tfue’s skills are far beyond those of the Turkish footballer. And even Tfue, at 24 years old, has no chance against the new pros in the scene.
If Fortnite then perhaps as a streamer: If eSports doesn’t turn out to be profitable, the Turkish footballer could still appear as a streamer. Mesut has many fans thanks to his football career. This way, Özil can easily gain reach, allowing him to also earn money through streams.
What do you think about the idea that Mesut Özil might soon step into the spotlight of the Fortnite eSports scene? Do you think it’s cool or should the player stick to the ball and score some goals? Let us know!
