At the Worlds 2023 in League of Legends, the South Korean favorite Gen G. surprisingly exited with superstar Chovy. They found no way to counter the jungler from Bilibili Gaming, Xun, who was allowed to play Jarvan IV 5 times.
What a match it was!
- It was a Best-of-5, the 2nd quarterfinal, after yesterday the last remaining team from the West, NRG from the USA, already got eliminated. Now only teams from South Korea and China face each other.
- Gen G. was considered a favorite to win the Worlds. This was mainly due to Midlaner Chovy, who is revered as “Our Lord and Savior.” Gen G. is also excellently staffed in all positions.
- Bilibili Gaming does not have such prominent names, their most famous player is probably Midlaner Yagao, but it is the second-best team in China and is already a force to be reckoned with.
Chinese jungler allowed to play Jarvan IV 5 times
Here’s how the match went: The Chinese team managed to win the first two matches relatively clearly with 14-5 and 15-3, and it looked like a thorough beating for the South Koreans, but they made a comeback and won Game 3 in 46 minutes with 13-9.
Gen G took Game 4 in 36 minutes with 20-11, leading to a deciding battle.
In Game 5, however, Bilibili Gaming was ahead and clearly won in 34 minutes with 14-6.
What was notable: The jungler XUN was allowed to play the champion Jarvan IV 5 times and dominated the game. He secured a total of 23 kills and died only 5 times. On Reddit, his performance is particularly highlighted as decisive.
Chovy was not able to dominate the game from the mid lane as usual; in the end, he secured only 10 kills and participated in 4 games with Azir.
On Reddit, he is now mainly criticized on the part of Gen G. and compared to superstar Faker, who has won tournaments single-handedly. Chovy, on the other hand, has now exited in the quarter-finals in 4 of his 5 Worlds appearances.
