Who we are: Mein-MMO.de was founded in September 2013 and is now the largest site for online gaming in Germany. According to Agof, we reached 2.88 million unique users in June.
Our site follows service games that are continuously developed over time. Our team takes the approach of deeply accompanying games, becoming experts in individual games, and staying close to the community. With up to 30 pieces of content per day, from current news to elaborate specials, MeinMMO reports on everything that moves online multiplayer gamers. This includes fast-paced MMO shooters like Destiny 2, classic MMORPGs like World of Warcraft, and new online multiplayer games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Who we are looking for: We are currently looking for someone who already has experience in online journalism and whose heart beats for online games. You will handle mixed topics with us.
You are well informed about the general news situation in the world of online multiplayer games. You are capable of recognizing an exciting story that truly interests the gamer behind the game.
This is a freelancer application. It does not concern a permanent position.
Your tasks
- You research and write articles such as news, opinions, specials, or game recommendations. The focus is on MMOs, MMORPGs, and online multiplayer games in general.
- You will learn to enter these articles into our content management system WordPress and to design them for the web.
- You develop article ideas.
- You research, interview experts or developers, and integrate this knowledge into your work to produce high-quality articles.
- You exchange ideas with our team about possible article ideas.
- You work closely with the community and also interview them for articles.
- There may, if desired, be special tasks such as (digital) event visits, participation in a stream project, or podcast.

What we expect
- You have already gained experience in online journalism. This includes your own well-maintained blog or a position at a larger online magazine.
- You have a broad knowledge of the MMO genre and have extensively played various online games, understanding what communities are interested in Games-as-a-Service titles. Please tell us in your cover letter which games you are particularly passionate about.
- You know the common sources of information for gamers and their social networks.
- Good English skills. You are able to conduct an interview in English and create accurate translations.
- You are resilient to stress when things get hectic. When breaking news comes in, you are able to keep a cool head and not get easily thrown off track.
- It is a big advantage if you are familiar with Google tools and SEO. However, this is not a must; we will teach you those skills and/or help deepen your knowledge.
- You enjoy putting yourself in others’ shoes and recognizing their needs. The reader is your top priority.
When is the job available? Immediately. You should be able to start in October.
How many hours is the job? 20 to 30 hours a week until the end of the year. Project-based, the hours can also be higher in the next three months.
What about payment? The position is paid – we are not looking for a volunteer, which is the case with some gaming sites. The payment details will be discussed together in a personal conversation. In this context, we will also clarify the possible scope according to the hourly rate.
