NPCs are an integral part of most modern games. Even in MMOs and multiplayer games, there are often well-written and endearing NPCs that really capture our hearts. Which NPCs have truly enchanted you? Let us know!
NPCs are abundant in MMOs and MMORPGs. Most of them just pass us by because we skip the dialogues during their fetch quests. Others, however, accompany players through the stories of the games and remain in memory for a long time.
But there are also those that immediately click with you. You cheer for them, miss them when they are absent from the story for an extended period, and might even shed a tear or two when they die.

For Cortyn, it is: “Definitely ‘Silvermoon’ Harry from World of Warcraft. He’s a human NPC who first appeared in “Wrath of the Lich King” and was captivating even then. He has quite the blood elf fetish. He only wears clothing from that culture, collects all kinds of furniture and everyday items from blood elf culture, and only talks to his wife when she puts on a blood elf mask.
In “Battle for Azeroth,” he makes a return and supports an attack on Nazmir. This only happened because he was asked, “Harry, will you support us in the blood-” … and that was all Harry needed to hear to be on board. That it ended up being blood trolls instead of blood elves is just bad luck. Definitely one of the funniest NPCs with the quirkiest fetish in World of Warcraft.”
Jürgen thinks: My favorite NPC in an MMO is Razum-dar from The Elder Scrolls Online. He is a cunning Khajiit who serves as a master spy for the elf queen. He is funny and impresses with cool quests, where you usually sneak around disguised.
Irie says: Phew, that’s a tough question; I could easily compile a whole list. Usually, it’s “rogue” types who don’t always follow all the rules and have a lax view of the law, like Cayde-6 in The Taken King. With witty remarks and a lot of charm, he’s wormed his way into my heart.
In Final Fantasy XIV, it’s definitely Fray, the main NPC of the Dark Knight quests. He’s a sarcastic and mysterious character who you can’t quite figure out at first. Although he’s technically “just” a supporting NPC, the story surrounding him is among the best in all of FFXIV. I really hope he will also appear in the next expansion “Shadowbringers”.
Micha says: Since my hunter is my favorite character in Destiny, Cayde-6 naturally plays a big role for me. While I thought the change with the death of the Vanguard member was good, I still feel a pang of nostalgia when I walk past Cayde’s old spot in the Tower and don’t find the Exo there anymore.
