Hand on heart: Who among you has not thought about wandering as a hero through your favorite MMO? But without real injuries, of course! But who would you be? Which class would you belong to?
The desire is to be distinguished from reality. Sometimes you wish to be strong like a warrior or speak wisely like a mage. But perhaps you are more of the cunning rogue or the support?
No matter whether you choose desire or “reality”, here you can let your imagination run wild!
Help or be helped?
Before getting into details, you can orient yourself in the search for your own class according to the broad categories:
- Would you rather protect and jump in for others? Then the tank would be something for you.
- If you prefer to help with spells or other buffs, then support would be the right choice. Without healing, a group would quickly be lost, and without buffs often too weak. As helping hands, you are not necessarily the front-line warriors, but indispensable members of the community!
- Or would you rather go directly for the dark adversary? Dealing as much damage as possible, striking hard or skillfully recognizing the weaknesses? In real life, there are no bruisers – but in the MMO, it is ultimately about the bigger picture!
And in detail?
Hunter, mage, priest, soldier, warrior, necromancer… there is an incredible variety of different classes! Some MMOs like Rift have over 50 and City of Heroes even over 80! At least, if you are precise and include all subclasses and specializations.
Choosing who you want to portray is difficult. Especially since it is not about looking for the class you normally prefer to play. It’s about considering who you would be – in a magical, warrior-like or otherwise designed MMO world.
Guddy would be a…
I would definitely be a deserter! No, of course, I would be a huntress. While I prefer to play front-line or melee fighters, ideally with two weapons instead of just one, I don’t think I would really have the guts to ram the blade into my opponent’s chest.
I would rather help. Not necessarily heal, but stand in the back with my little bow, while distributing some funny spells or traps and sending encouraging words into the raid. In an MMORPG, I would also be nature-connected due to my preferred fantasy world, which is why the hunter is my choice.
If there are no classic raids but I found myself in a shooter world, it would probably look similar: I would be a ranged fighter making “pew pew” from above and hitting right in the heart!
But I probably wouldn’t fight at all. I would sit somewhere by the roadside, picking daisies and hoping that no one sees me. But how about you? Who would you be?
